CME on Femtocataract & Hands-On Training Program by top eye institute-ABO

ABO Eye Institute, in association with the Vidarbha Ophthalmic Society (VOS) and the Ophthalmological Society of Nagpur (OSN), successfully organized a **CME on Femtocataract & Hands-On Training Program at ABO Eye Institute, Nagpur.
This was FIRST of it’s kind HandsOn Femto cataract workshop in the entire country. The academic event brought together ophthalmologists from across Vidarbha and neighboring regions for an intensive learning experience on the latest advances in *Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS).

Dr Manoj Oberoi felicitated
the Chief Guest, Mrs. Shivani Dani-Wakhare, Chairperson, Standing Committee, Nagpur Municipal Corporation*, who appreciated the efforts of ABO Eye Institute in bringing cutting-edge ophthalmic technology and continuing medical education to Nagpur. She emphasized the importance of such academic initiatives in strengthening healthcare services and encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies for improved patient care.

The program commenced with registration and breakfast, followed by the inauguration, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and felicitation of dignitaries. The scientific session was chaired by Dr. Seema Deshmukh and Dr. Pankaj Lande, who guided the proceedings and encouraged interactive academic discussions.

The highlight of the program was the presence of Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, Shreya Eye Centre, as the **Guest Faculty. Delivering the keynote lecture titled *”Acquiring Ambidexterity in Cataract Surgery: Gateway to the Next Level of Precision, Confidence, Innovation & Creative Mindset,”* Dr. Gupta emphasized the importance of developing surgical versatility and adapting innovative techniques to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Gupta also delivered an insightful lecture on “The Surgical Fire Exit in Challenging Cataract Surgery,” sharing practical strategies for managing difficult cataract cases. His live surgical demonstration, showcasing ambidexterity in cataract surgery, received tremendous appreciation from the delegates for its precision, innovation and educational value.

The scientific program featured a series of informative presentations by eminent faculty members. Dr. Aditi Johri spoke on “FLACS Unlocked,” providing an overview of the advantages and practical applications of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. Dr. Krishna Bhojwani delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Femtosecond Surgery,” highlighting the evolution, principles and future of FLACS. Dr. Manoj Oberoi presented “Femto at Doorstep – Moving FEMTO on Wheels,” demonstrating the utility and flexibility of mobile femtosecond laser technology. Dr. Gopal Arora shared valuable insights through his talk “Saving Our Skin During Difficult Times,” while Dr. Pankaj Lande introduced delegates to the concept of the Ultrasonic Pre-Chopper, emphasizing its role in improving surgical efficiency.

An engaging panel discussion and interactive question-and-answer session enabled participants to discuss challenging clinical scenarios and exchange practical experiences with the expert faculty.

A major attraction of the program was the Hands-On FLACS Workshop conducted on the Ziemer Femto LDV Z8, where participants received supervised training in patient docking, capsulotomy creation, lens fragmentation patterns, corneal incision planning and workflow optimization. The workshop offered delegates a unique opportunity to gain practical experience with state-of-the-art femtosecond laser technology.
Special appreciation was extended to Dr. Shon Chinchole (President, VOS), Dr. Subodh Purohit (Secretary, VOS), Dr. Shamik Mokadam (President, OSN) and Dr. Varda Gokhale (Secretary, OSN) for their encouragement and cooperation.

The organizers also acknowledged the contribution of the Masters of Ceremony, Dr. Rashi Sawal and *Dr. Madhavi Agarwal and the presence of Dr Praful Mokadam, Dr Anand Pangarkar and Dr Mala kamble.
